Build Back Better Forum - Volunteering Victoria

February 2021

CEO Thu-Trang Tran was a panellist at Volunteering Victoria’s Build Back Better Forum where she shared key pragmatic steps that Volunteer West will take. These included:

  • Making volunteering more open and accessible is even more crucial to support people through crisis recover. This means bringing volunteering closer to people’s front doors, into their routine lives and closer to their hearts. We must meet people in their shopping routine, rather than make people come to an office to receive services. Building and implementing a multi-lingual portal will reach our CALD communities with volunteering information.

  • Provide on-demand support for people supporting volunteers. This means giving access to how-to training and guides which can be found online. The intangible and vital ingredients of support that make or break a program:

    • Turn lessons and ideas into action to be the sounding board support needed.

    • Localise the support to connect people with others in the same area.

  • See connections as valuable assets to invest in. Whether the connections are peer-to-peer or organisation-to-organisation, they require; effort, time, funding, equipment, community space, accessible and user-friendly digital platforms.
