Volunteering as a Pathway Through Career Transition
Our recent Volunteering and Job Readiness workshop in Altona brought together experienced professionals from construction, pharmacy, business, nursing and public health.
Some participants were recovering from illness. Others were rethinking long careers or looking for a fresh direction after feeling exhausted from work. What stood out was not a lack of skill or experience, but a willingness to reflect, adapt and explore new possibilities.
Many were considering how volunteering could help them rebuild confidence, expand networks, gain local experience and open new pathways forward.
The session reminded us that unemployment often reflects transition, not capability. Volunteering can provide a steady and supportive step during times of change.
Thank you to Louis Joel Arts and Community for partnering with us and opening your space to support this workshop for the community.
At Volunteer West, we have seen many examples of volunteering helping people move into paid employment. You can also read another story we shared about Namrata and how volunteering supported her journey into a role in social media.
