About Us
Volunteer West’s mission is to improve the health and wellbeing of people in Melbourne’s west through volunteering that empowers and engages.
Our organisation, a charity, is the only volunteer resource centre in the region. As a regional peak, we work across six local government areas serving a population of over 880,000 people, a fifth of Melbourne’s metro population.
Our work is focused on convening, championing, and collaborating to build an inclusive volunteer movement. Our values that drive our work are audacity, amplify, empathy and impact.
About the Board
The Board establishes the strategic leadership and governance to achieve the mission of Volunteer West. As a board member, you will contribute to growing Volunteer West in a strategic manner. As we are growing rapidly, and adapting to changing sectoral changes, we are looking for a member with experience in the following:
Philanthropic Trusts and Corporate Foundations;
Social Impact Investment;
Business Development; and
Social impact assessment.
Responsibilities of a board member will include:
Attend and take part in Board meetings, currently bi-monthly;
Annually review and approve the Volunteer West budget, strategic plans, and organisational performance against those plans;
Develop and review major policies and changes, as necessary;
Overseeing regulatory compliance and risk management for the organisation;
Lead sub-committees and take steps to improve Volunteer West’s mission and outcomes; and
Being active in the organisation, such as by attending functions or events as a representative of an organisation.
It is expected that members contribute on average 8-10 hours a month in progressing Board duties and projects.
All Board members are volunteers.
Volunteer West aims to establish a board with diverse members that have a mix of different skill sets, knowledge, and experiences, and are representative of the communities we serve.
