Grassroots organisations provide a means of communication for community members to collaborate and connect. Their community-based initiatives address localised problems and are instrumental for innovation and change.

WestSeed was created to support the multicultural community groups in Melbourne’s west by:

  • Finding volunteers that have the same passion in helping achieve the organisation’s goals

  • Promoting the organisation via an online community map and blog posts

  • Connecting the organisation with other groups in their local area through Community Development Workshops

New or established, organisations can benefit from meeting and networking with other groups. The Community Development Workshops provided a platform for members and volunteers alike to share ideas, resources, information and support.

🔸 The WestSeed team has been hard at work, with 121 meetings conducted with groups across six LGAs: Moonee Valley, Hobsons Bay, Maribyrnong, Wyndham, Brimbank and Melton.

🔸 The team has also successfully organised three online workshops in July and August, attended by 69 attendees.

🔸 Through the workshops, 272 unique connections were made! They provided a forum for the organisations to share the history, strengths, needs and challenges faced in their respective communities.

The successes seen through these workshops shows organisations are more than willing to collaborate and engage with other organisations. Building on the momentum garnered from WestSeed 1.0, we’re now planning for the launch of WestSeed 2.0 with an evolved focus on empowering organisations.
