Giving Back Through Generations at Girl Guides

At the Wyndham Volunteer Expo, the Volunteer West team had the opportunity to meet Katherine, who has been volunteering with Wyndham Girl Guides for the past 15 years.

Katherine was once involved with Girl Guides as a child herself and later decided to return as a volunteer, giving back to a community that had once supported her.

On the day, she was joined by Elizabeth, one of the young people she had previously mentored, who is now also stepping forward to help represent the Guides.

It was a lovely example of how volunteering can create long-lasting connections across generations, with people growing from participants into leaders, mentors and community role models.

Even with weekends filled with activities and commitments, Katherine shared that volunteering continues to be a joyful and important part of her life.

Stories like Katherine and Elizabeth’s remind us that volunteering is not only about helping others in the moment. It is also about building confidence, connection, belonging and community over time.
