Ibrahim’s journey from settlement to community support

For Ibrahim, supporting refugee and migrant families comes from lived experience. Recently, the Volunteer West team met with Ibrahim from Australia Refugees and Family Reunification (ARFRI) at Djerring Flemington Hub.

Thanh and Phuong from the Volunteer West team with Ibrahim from ARFRI in front of Djerring Flemington Hub during a recent community visit and conversation about supporting refugee and migrant families.

After navigating the settlement journey himself, Ibrahim understands how isolating and overwhelming it can feel for newly arrived individuals and families trying to navigate unfamiliar systems and services.

Today, alongside his full-time job, he continues to support refugee and migrant communities so people do not have to go through those experiences alone.

Through funding support from Moonee Valley City Council, Volunteer West is proud to support organisations like ARFRI by helping promote volunteer opportunities and strengthen community connections.

We are currently assisting ARFRI in promoting an Administration Support volunteer role to help with intake and administrative tasks, supporting families to feel welcomed, connected and supported.

For those interested in meaningful, community-led volunteering, this is a wonderful opportunity to contribute to work that directly supports refugee and migrant communities.
