Visiting Foodbank Victoria’s new home in Altona
Today the Volunteer West team had the opportunity to visit the new Foodbank Victoria warehouse in Altona.
Julie and Emily at the Thursday morning tea at Foodbank Victoria.
Foodbank has been a long-standing partner of ours, so it was lovely to reconnect with Renee, Mike and the team and see their new space now that they have settled in.
The warehouse is bright, spacious and thoughtfully designed. As we walked through the building we could see the Foodbank story woven into the space, from artwork and volunteer stories to messages volunteers leave for one another.
One area that really stood out was the volunteer pantry shop. What used to be a small corner in the old warehouse is now a welcoming shop style space where volunteers can pick up essential items and donated goods during their break. At 10:30 am the space came alive as volunteers gathered for morning tea. We were lucky to join the rework team and enjoy chocolate and banana cake, part of a Thursday tradition led by Julie. It was a small moment that captured the spirit of the place. People greeting each other warmly, sharing food and enjoying a break together.
Foodbank Victoria offers a welcoming environment where volunteers can meet people, build skills and contribute to something meaningful in the community.
