Strength and Healing at YIRRAMBOI - An Evening of Reflection
Last night, one of our Volunteer West team members attended the opening night of Blak Women’s Healing at Arts House, curated by Dr Paola Balla as part of the YIRRAMBOI Festival.
The evening was deeply moving, creating space for First Nations women to share stories of strength, healing, culture and sovereignty through art, conversation and community connection.
Through text, imagery, weaving, yarning circles and artist talks, Blak Women’s Healing transformed the space into one of reflection, resistance, care and cultural knowledge-sharing.
One of the most meaningful parts of the evening was witnessing the sense of solidarity in the room, with people coming together to listen, learn and stand alongside First Nations women and communities.
We were especially happy to see our friend and long-term community partner, Helen Farquhar, whose ongoing guidance and generosity continue to support Volunteer West’s learning and community engagement, including our NAIDOC Week planning and activities.
Events like this remind us that community connection and reconciliation can also grow through art, storytelling and creating space for First Nations voices to be heard, respected and celebrated.
We are grateful to everyone involved in creating such a thoughtful and powerful evening.
